Electroviscous Effects in Stationary Solid Phase Suspensions

چکیده
Flowing through porous media is a matter of interest in different research fields such as medicine, engineering and science. The spontaneous appearance ionic distribution at the solid liquid interface gives place to reduction flow rate, which generally named electroviscous effect. However, this should be differentiated two more specific effects, primary effect due distortion clouds, secondary overlapping clouds. Theoretical experimental works have not always been clearly conducted order separate both effects. Instead, they globally grouped. purpose review revise theoretical bibliography on stationary phase suspensions (porous plugs, membranes, microchannels, capillaries). main conclusions brief revision are: (i) when clouds are relatively small, it possible accept that only cause for apparent increase viscosity forced relative phase; (ii) although theory predicts maximum variation overall vs size cloud, has experimentally observed but properly reasoned its existence depends salt type; (iii) necessary justify why, if fluid non-Newtonian, electrokinetic parameters dominate characteristics high pressure gradients, rheological decisive generated by low gradients.

The primary electroviscous effect in colloidal suspensions.
Although a well-defined electrokinetic phenomenon, the primary electroviscous effect in dilute colloidal suspensions is still an unsolved problem. Most of the experimental tests of the different theories that we have studied have shown a lack of agreement. We have developed, during the last years, new theoretical approaches obtaining, finally, a much better agreement with the experimental resul...
متن کاملElectroviscous effects of simple electrolytes under shear
On the basis of a hydrodynamical model analogous to that in critical fluids, we investigate the influences of shear flow upon the electrostatic contribution to the viscosity of binary electrolyte solutions in the Debye-Hückel approximation. Within the linear-response theory, we reproduce the classical limiting law that the excess viscosity is proportional to the square root of the concentration...
متن کاملCharge - stabilized colloidal suspensions . Phase behavior and effects of confinement *
The Poisson–Boltzmann (PB) equation is used to investigate effective colloid-interface interactions and the phase behavior of charge-stabilized colloidal suspensions. When a colloidal particle, immersed in an electrolyte, approaches an interface, which may be neutral (such as air) or charged (like electrodes, glass, etc.), image charge effects plus the deformation of the colloidal ion atmospher...
متن کاملStationary phase in yeast.
Eukaryotic cell proliferation is controlled by specific growth factors and the availability of essential nutrients. If either of these signals is lacking, cells may enter into a specialized nondividing resting state, known as stationary phase or G(0). The entry into such resting states is typically accompanied by a dramatic decrease in the overall growth rate and an increased resistance to a va...
متن کاملAmino-modified diamond as a durable stationary phase for solid-phase extraction.
We report the formation of a highly stable amino stationary phase on diamond and demonstrate its use in solid-phase extraction (SPE). This process consists of spontaneous and self-limiting adsorption of polyallylamine (PAAm) from aqueous solution onto oxidized diamond. Thermal curing under reduced pressure or chemical cross-linking with a diepoxide was shown to fix the polymer to the particles....
